WHO WE SERVE
Andrew, age 20, tries so hard to attend to his personal hygiene each day, but despite years of behavior therapy, lists, reminders and alarms, he just can't seem to remember to do it all. Currently he has several painful cavities as a result of not remembering to brush his teeth. He has gone without needed medication because he has forgotten to make an appointment withhis physician, and now must wait for an appointment. Andrew is able to manage his health and ADL's best when he has someone at home who is able to provide him with periodic verbal “nudging” in order to complete his daily activities. The need for a "life coach" does not stop with personal hygeine - he also needs someone to help him stay on task with his college course work, meal planning and cooking, as well as transportation needs.
Briana, age 28, lived with her parents until they both suddenly passed away. She has begun working with state social services in order to locate a place to live, but has been told that the waiting list for affordable housing is many years long. She has been able to access assistance with her lengthy list of medications and ongoing doctor appointments, as well as learn how to budget her monthly income. Although her parents left her funds set up in a special needs trust, which she has used since their death to pay for supportive services, staffing has been inconsistent and there have been many times they have not come to work. Briana must now use money from her trust in order avoid homelessness.
Often Briana forgets to eat.
Ernesto, age 45, must survive on what he receives from SSI and the income he brings in from his part-time job. He has tried to work full time at various jobs, but something always happens and he just can't seem to handle it. His income is very limited, and there is no family who can help him. He has not done well living alone, and because he has forgotten to pay his rent one too many times, he has occasionally been homeless. When Ernesto has someone to remind him to take care of his finances, he pays his bills.
